The latter provides a more subtle effect with added body and presence. It has two modes – Punchy and Smooth – the former designed to accentuate percussive transients and exaggerate bass sounds. This is a dedicated bass-shaping tool that lets you balance the low end with easy spectral adjustments meant to change the prominence of certain sounds, such as the body of an acoustic guitar or the punch of a kick drum. Rather than do try-hard EQ’ing or send the mix back to the mix engineer, a good degree of balance control is now in the hands of the mastering engineer. This is very helpful if all that’s needed for an instrument to sit just right is a small level tweak, or the song could do with additional riding of the faders to sound more engaging. This feature lets you correct the levels of instruments in a mix without access to the original tracks or stems.
